Okay, first let me say that I take my nutrition very seriously and I’ve been a long-time fan of Pure Food Protein Powder, both flavors, because I’ve done a ton of research and I know this company is the real deal. So I was a little confused when Real Meal appeared. Yes, I read the label and yes I did my own comparison of labels, but it seemed close in nutrition to the protein powders. I wondered why a second protein powder product had been introduced so I did what any discerning and curious consumer would do: I wrote to Pure Food. After an initial email that provided me with comparison charts (good to see in one place but not truly helpful because I had already done that myself), I received an email from the owner, Scott, who was kind enough (and very smart) to have an in-depth discussion with me about the products. Scott is fabulous, just sayin’. I don’t know him personally, but the time he took to chat with me about what he is doing and what the products are was impressive. He is passionate about producing the cleanest plant-based protein powders and now he has come up with Real Meal. So I took a shot at it and purchased a tub. I wanted to make the bare bones basic drink, one I would probably hate, so I used room temp water and my blender, expecting the worst. SURPRISE! The drink was perfectly fine and had body and a mild, definitely chocolately, but satisfying flavor to it. I kept thinking that if I had used ice, it would have been an outstanding meal replacement. As it was, it was still really, really good and with 26 grams of protein, I was very happy. So why Real Meal instead of just the protein powder? Time saving. if I have time, Pure Food Protein Powder with a bit of almond butter, a banana, and some chia seeds or flax is great! But when I’m in a rush, Real Meal in ten ounces of water will be all I can handle and I don’t even need a blender, just a shaker bottle. At least I’ll know I’m getting in my nutrition in a tasty way. Honestly, I will continue to use both products and I was already a subscriber, because I like both the vanilla and chocolate powders. But I can honestly say, Real Meal will be another go-to for me and I’m adding it onto my subscription. If you just want a basic protein drink without a blender and all the add-ins, this Real Meal product is a keeper. If you’ve got time for a more involved shake, the protein powder is awesome. I can imagine a hundred circumstances where Real Meal will be more useful than just the powder, though. No matter what, I know I’ll use it all. One more thing: price point. Yes, it seems a bit costly. But when I compare what I’m getting to what other products offer, I’ll pay a little more. Health first. I’d rather buy Real Meal or the other Pure Food products and stay healthy than pay doctors later on. I think Real Meal is truly outstanding meal replacement powder and I’m looking forward to using it on most days, when time doesn’t allow for anything more involved than a fast hit of nutrition.
